Where Have You Gone?

I’ve been back in New Plymouth for just over 9 years now – the only reason I know how many years it is is because of Hartleigh – honestly if you asked me I’d say 4-5 years at the most – the time as flown! Hart is going to be NINE on Saturday. the last of the single digits for my June 2005 baby.

I thought it might be a good time to do a bit of a review of the past nine years.

I moved home (to Taranaki)

I had a baby

I got divorced

I bought a house

I put on weight (a lot as it turns out)

I sold the house (and lost more money than I can deal)

I lost the weight

I fell in love

I fell out of love

I got a tattoo (after 19 years of deliberation!)

I found some fantastic new friends

I’ve said goodbye to some who should still be here

I fell in love again

I resigned myself to the fact that insomnia is now my friend

 

I still fail at most parts of my life

I have succeeded in places I never thought I would

I know I’m not the person I want to be but I’m going to keep trying to get there because it’s the least I can do for Hart. Protect him from making my mistakes. If only!

 

Goals, Resolutions, and other Good Stuff

It’s the brink of 2014 and, as I’ve done for many a year, I’m setting goals and making resolutions for the New Year. I know making resolutions for many is just lip service, but I like something to strive for. For me it’s a positive way to start the year. I forgive myself for the things I didn’t achieve and resolve to achieve new things.

I also have some rituals I like to do on New Year’s Eve to start the year the right way. This is why I don’t tend to go out on NYE. I like to be in my comfort zone, doing the things I want to, with the people I want to. This year it’s going to be at Cervidae Castle with Mr 8, and a bottle of Moet! A fabulous way to start the New Year I think!

For me, goals are those that I can achieve through hard work and determination, resolutions are those things I would really like to achieve but that may not be possible due to circumstances and events outside of your immediate control.

As I’ve also blogged I do intend to print out some of these goals and resolutions and have them posted around the house as a daily reminder. I know this really worked for my weight loss and I will start that reminder again too.

So enough of all that, let’s get into it!

Firstly, I still feel that weight loss is my main focus for 2014 in terms of personal goals.

Weight Loss Goal

Goal 1 – Get back to 30kgs lost – Achieved 15/1/14
Goal 2 – Reach my original GW
Goal 3 – 35kgs lost
Goal 4 – Reach UGW
Goal 5 – To fit into single digit size clothing (yes, that means size 8 or less) – Achieved 30/1/14 – wore a size 8 skirt to work today!

(I intend to notarise these as I achieve each goal).

I do think UGW will take the best part of the year but I’m in this for the long haul so I’m comfortable with that long range forecast.

Mini-Goal

From 1st January until 14th February I intend to be alcohol-free. I lost a tonne of weight this year whilst being alcohol free for 4 weeks, and as I have BIG goals to reach this year I want to kick it off with some really good losses.

Organised House

I did pretty good in 2013 and having to move twice did make me declutter quite a bit but I do still have a lot of things I don’t use often enough to really warrant keeping them. There are still a lot of things I can let go and as I keep unpacking I’ll also keep decluttering.

I’m also going to have a really organised house. As this house is so old there are many modern conveniences that I don’t have so being clean and tidy all the time will be important to keep the house in a ‘good place’.

Organised Work

After a year in this job, I’ve experienced all of our different race days, and now feel like I have some knowledge behind me in terms of how I can create an even better experience for our race day guests, our sponsors, and the public. 2014 will be the start of some new strategies and systems in order to maximise the experience of each guest on each race day.

2014 offers plenty of scope to develop existing race days and build on the new events from the past twelve months.

Bigger, better, and more beneficial is my aim for 2014.

Oh, and of course there is also that secret project!! < Yes it’s a two exclamation project 😉

Handmade Christmas

Christmas was little underdone this (despite having 5 trees) as I felt like I didn’t get the benefit of the whole experience a) because we moved house so late, b) the trees didn’t go up until December!, and c) I worked so much! So Christmas 2014 starts in January with the handmade Christmas project. Look out for blogs about fabulous handmade items (and no doubt terrible disasters too!).

First on the agenda is knitted bunting (if I can remember how to cast on lol).

Bucket List / Things I Want To Do

2014 will be time to tick some of these off, and I will create a separate blog listing them and write separately as I tick them off, but here are just a few:

– Buy a Grabone ticket to a destination I’ve never been to before

31st December 2013 – A Review Of My Resolutions

I’ve copied by blog post from the first of January this year and through it might be a good idea to review what I have and haven’t done and use this to form part of my resolutions and goals for 2014.

The first day of the year always offers us a chance for a fresh start, to refocus our goals and plans. I’ve previously outlined my resolutions for this year but today I want to outline my personal ‘goals’.

Most people have a weight loss goal for the new year and I’m no different, unfortunately this is a roll over from 2012 but I am determined to reach my goal this year – and my reward? Being able to fit into the clothes in my wardrobe! I cannot wait – I have some super cute clothes and I want to be able to wear them. So the goal is to lose 20kgs.

Well for those of you who have followed my journey this year I have well and truly gone past the 20kg goal and even reached 30kgs!

Goal for 2014 – 40kgs!

My next goal is to do with photography – I’m actually quite a poor photographer [I particularly suck at selfies] and part of my new role at TTR is to take photos of the race days and my failings were highlighted when I uploaded the photos. Yes, some of this was a learning curve about what images to capture but also about how to capture great shots, so this year I want to learn how to take better photos, and ideally I would like to upgrade my camera too. The second part of this goal is about photos of me. I am not photogenic and usually hate photos taken of me, however I want to at least occasionally have some nice photos so my other goal is to learn how to be photographed.

Whilst I did do a bit of research about what photography courses there are, I didn’t actually do any classes!

Goal for 2014 – complete at least one class.

My third goal is a new car – the one I drive at the moment, to put it politely, is a piece of shit! It’s reliable [thankfully] but it’s as old as dial up internet, and I’m embarrassed to be seen in it! Hopefully I can get some savings under my belt this year to upgrade.

No new car in 2013, other priorities. Let’s see what 2014 brings.

My fourth goal is to launch a little sideline project I have bubbling away. I don’t want to say too much about it just yet, but as soon as it’s ready to go I’ll let you know.

This little project is on hold at present while I work on a potentially huge project connected to work.

My final goal for 2013 is to maintain and build this blog. I’d like to find a real rhythm this year and offer something new and fresh for the year, but for now, I wish you all a very Happy New Year, and hope you have a wonderful 2013 full of achieved resolutions and goals that have been reached.

The blog was going really well earlier in 2013, but I have to admit that the latter half of the year it has slipped, however now we are in a new house, work is under control (mostly), and life is settling down I feel like I have the time and the motivation to kick it up a gear in 2014.

Spring Update

We are incredibly a quarter of the way through November, the last month of Spring and so much has been happening I thought I should write a bit of a catch up blog!

Firstly, I was given notice to move out of Camelot, and that put me into a bit of a spin, I didn’t find a new home in time so I’m staying with a friend but will be moving into my new place at the end of the month. Timing was so bad, I had two major events at work and no enough time to look and although we’re now running into the Summer Carnival season at work I’m feeling relaxed about the move because I have plenty of time to get set up. My new home is very close to work, the park, a playground, and ‘town’. Can’t wait to be back in such a central location. Will have to think of a new name for my Foursquare check-ins lol.

Work has been good, Ladies Day was a huge success and I am so happy. It was a real test for me personally and I guess in some way professionally too. I definitely feel more confident about the events I have planned for the Summer Carnival and although there is literally too much work to fit into a day I love it so much it doesn’t matter. My Sunday is going to be spent putting together  sponsorship packages for our next Ladies events in February, but before then it’s the launch of the Summer Carnival, two Christmas At The Races, Family Fun Day with a new format and a junior Fashions On The Field, a charity race day, and another twilight race day! Oh yeah it’s full on, but I love it!

Personally I’ve been in flux, very unsettled, especially moving house, and it’s been reflected in my weight. Although I’ve tried to stay true to clean, the old ‘comfort’ habits come back when I’m stressed like this. Cannot wait to get into my new place and get back into my routine. In the meantime I just have to manage as best I can and try and try to keep control without slipping too far back into the old ways. I did go to see Jason Shon Bennett and have done a little bit of fasting which I hope to really explore and develop during the Summer and into the New Year.

Christmas will be celebrated in our new home, and I am very happy about that, as there was the possibility that we wouldn’t be in until the end of January and I think that would have been a really bad start to the year for me. The new house is big so allthree trees will be put up, but no new theme this year, well…. maybe a few new decorations! (Can’t help myself!).

Looking towards the New Year I haven’t thought too much about resolutions yet although I want to do some personal development courses both personally and professionally. I think it’s important to keep being educated and I always come away from courses like that with a whole new enthusiasm. As for the rest of them I need to moved in and settled before I can make any other firm decisions.

In the short term I’m looking forward to another fabulous Summer filled with all the things I love – friends, family, beach, and beer (lol), long term I’m excited that Hartleigh can walk home from school, he’ll have plenty of space to play and is close to lots of his buddies, that we’ll be settled into a house that we know we won’t have to move from for a long long time.

Skinny Love Saturday – Stronger

Skinny Love is all self love. No matter where you are in your journey, perhaps you haven’t even started yet, the first step is to believe in yourself. No matter how many obstacles are put in your way if you believe you can overcome them you will.

Some obstacles will be small, choosing whether to have that piece of cake, some will be big, such as the loss of a loved one, but each of these events help to make us stronger – mentally, emotionally, and sometimes physically.

Monday Motivation – Mid-year Resolutions

Incredibly today is the first day of the second half of the year. The first six months have been been a bit of a roller-coaster (like many people I suspect). I’ve had some really fantastic times, and some not fantastic times but over all the year has had far more positives than negatives.

As for my resolutions:

Weight Loss – as at the last day of June I was 75% of the way to my goal weight and had lost 25.2kgs overall. I’m very happy with that.

Photography: So far I haven’t done anything to achieve this goal. I reset this goal and resolve to work towards being a better photographer by the end of the year.

New Car: Unfortunately I am still driving my piece of shite car. I might need a little miracle to make this resolution into a relity.

Sideline Project: Still bubbling away but not going anywhere at the moment. It’s a goal but long term so I’m not stressed that it’s just sitting there.

Maintain and build this blog: The blog challenge in June was fantastic. Having lots of new and different topics to blog about was great. I’m trying not to be too predictable with my regular posts and also blog about things that meant something to me. such as my Friday Reflection.

I think I’m tracking OK. I could have done more, but then again I could have done less. I’m where I’m meant to be on this journey. I feel like my hard work is paying off in certain parts of my life and that’s nice to finally be recognised and rewarded by the universe.

Weigh In Wednesday – ‘The Half’

Everything you need2013 has been a watershed year for me so far. I’ve made some quite drastic changes to my life in particular in the areas of health and fitness and work-life balance. I’ve said no to things I would like to be involved with because I needed to stop over committing myself. I’m doing less and giving those things more.

The first week of April saw a 2.5kg loss which is awesome and a big chunk towards my goal for the next six weeks. [Week two not so pretty but that’s another blog]. I’ve been running [well walk/jog/run], and doing the squat challenge. At present working up to being able to easily run 5kms but also doing some hill work.

I’ve achieved some great goals this year and feel like it’s time to step up my efforts. Whilst I have some new short term goals as outlined in this blog, I decided I needed something bigger to work towards, a ‘milestone’ event so I have decided to run the half marathon in October.

Whilst I know this is no small undertaking I do feel confident that I can achieve this goal especially with the support of my friends who have been so positive and encouraging. Can’t wait to make them and me proud!
