Many of us have dreams, things we would do if we had the time, money, ability, or chance. I watch a lot of television shows where they offer people the chance to make a dream come true – things like Masterchef where the contentants say ‘cooking is my life’, ‘I’ve always wanted to have my own cafe/restaurant’ and it makes me wonder why they don’t? If it’s such a passion, such a huge part of their life, why don’t they do something to move towards their dream?? But I know it’s not that easy! Believe me, I KNOW!!
I have dreams too – I’ve always wanted to be a back-up singer or appear in a music video but considering I CANNOT sing to save myself, and these days I’m a little outside the demographic for most music videos I’m going to let that one go – unless I win Lotto and then I’ll just ‘buy’ my way in lol.
I’ve also always wanted to spend three months travelling around New Zealand visiting all of our wonderful vineyards – this one is not dead by a long shot!
Another one of my dreams is to look good in photos and this is actually part of my weight loss goal, I’m going to reward myself with a full on pamper day of getting the glam treatment and a photo shoot!
I would also have loved to be at Woodstock or LiveAid but alas both times I was too young, and there are other concerts I would love to have attended, like Led Zepplin, The Doors, Genesis and Eric Clapton, but in saying that I have also been to some fantastic life changing concerts – The Rolling Stones at the original Wembley Stadium, Fleetwood Mac at the Bowl (cannot explain how much this impacted my life (or why) and I will forever be thankful to my sister for getting us the gold reserve seats for my birthday), and Guns and Roses at Mt Smart – mostly because my mum attended with me and my sister and we rocked our little hearts out.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not running around with all these unrequited dreams making me feel miserable, after all I live in a beautiful place, I work for myself, I have a wonderful family who are happy and healthy, I can usually pay all my bills on time and I have a group of friends who love me despite my many flaws!
Anyway back to the dreams – one of my lifelong dreams has been to own a racehorse (or part thereof). My grandfather had racehorses at some stage, but I think it was even before I was born, I love going to the races – always have, and every year I book a marquee and spend the day with friends living it up, looking at the horses, betting, and usually drinking too much. It’s a fabulous, fun day out – it’s usually part of my birthday celebration (I like to drag that sucker out as long as I can!). To me the thought of racehorse ownership sounds glamorous, exciting, and just a wee bit spesh (or maybe that’s me lol), the reality may be entirely different! Anyway it’s my dream which is now a GOAL! I have a plan, I have a deadline, and I am going to do everything I can to make this happen. I’ll be posting some of the steps I am taking to actively move towards my goal so stay tuned!
One of the people I admire a lot, Bridgette O’Sullivan, and here’s a link to the image source, an interview with her and some race day fashion advice!
And to finish, here’s the wonderful Mr Napolean Hill
